The Cultural District Strategies report was prepared on behalf of the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development as part of an Economic Strategy for the revitalization of the Central Market neighborhood. The analysis presents research and recommendations on best practices and catalytic projects that create vibrant communities built on the arts and that provide benefits to existing low income residents. Central Market Economic Development Strategy 2011

Deborah Frieden is consulting for the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development on an Economic Development Strategy for the Central Market district of San Francisco based in part on creating a lively creative arts district.  Deborah’s research has entailed studying strategies and best practices across the U.S. for developing arts and cultural districts while stabilizing low income communities. Collaborating with AECOM and the Northern California Community Loan Fund, Deborah and the team will also work with local stakeholders, such as the Tenderloin Economic Development Project, American Conservatory Theater, Intersection for the Arts, Theater Bay Area, the Arts Commission of the City of San Francisco, Grants for the Arts, among others.
